The Power Up 15 Sport is a 4.5 ounce 1000KV, 550 watt outrunner brushless motor that is roughly equivalent in power to .25 to .35 two stroke glow engines. It will produce up to 69 ounces of thrust when using a 3 or 4 cell Lipo battery. This motor includes an X mount and prop adapter, and 3.5mm male connectors are installed!
This motor is similar to the E-Flite Power 15, AXI Gold 2820/12, and our own Firepower 15 Sport.
We recommend using the Power Up 15 Sport motor for planes weighing 3 to 4 lbs, using the following components:
APC 11x5.5E prop
11.1v 2600 50C to 11.1v 4200 50C Lipo battery
This combination will produce about 59 ounces of thrust with a fresh battery. For maximum performance, an APC 12x6E prop can be used, but be sure to provide good airflow over the motor and ESC.
The Power Up 15 Sport motor is a nice upgrade for the Park Zone T-28 Trojan. Use our custom Aluminum Motor Mount for the T-28 in place of the stock plastic motor mount. With the stock propeller, ESC and battery, you will have a nice power increase over the stock 480 motor. For superior high-power performance, I recommend upgrading the ESC to a Sky Power 45A with Switchmode BEC, APC 11 x 7E prop and 11.1v 2200mah lipo battery.
MOUNTING OPTIONS: The Power Up 15 Sport includes an X mount that makes it easy to mount in front of a firewall. A 4mm Prop Adapter is included for mounting props. If you need to mount the motor BEHIND a firewall, we suggest that you consider the Firepower 15 Sport, as it is similar in size and performance, but the shaft extends from the base of the motor.
This fiberglass-covered balsa model of a Lockheed L-1049 (EC-121R) Super Constellation was built by David P. of Oregon. The model has an 88" wingspan, a flying weight of 12 pounds, and is powered by four Power Up 15 Sport motors swinging GWS 1060x3R propellers and backed by four 40 Amp ESCs. David also used ten Power Up 17g Micro Servos, as well as Castle 10 Amp and 20 Amp UBECs for his receiver and retracts. David's excellent model won the 1st Place Prize in the Pro Am Sportsman class of his local US Scale Masters qaulifier event!
Bill H. of Minnesota has also put the Power Up 15 Sport motor to very good use on his Mysterion, a model designed by Al Clark and featured in the January 2015 issue of Model Aviation Magazine.
As built by Bill H., this ultracote-covered model is powered by the Power Up 15 Sport 1000kv motor, running off an 11.1v 2200mah 35C lipo battery and Sky Power 45 Amp ESC and swings an 11 x 8 folding propeller. Current draw is only 32 amps and the motor stays quite cool.
